Shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2024
I am beyond thrilled that River East, River West has been shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2024 alongside five other extraordinary books from writers I deeply admire.
As reported by The Guardian:
“Anne Enright, Kate Grenville and Isabella Hammad are among the contenders for this year’s Women’s prize for fiction, on a shortlist that features migration as a recurring theme. French-Chinese-American writer Aube Rey Lescure was shortlisted for River East, River West, a reversal of the east-to-west immigrant narrative, set against China’s economic boom. Rey Lescure is the only debut writer on this year’s shortlist, despite the fact that debuts made up half of the longlist.”

River East, River West to be published in the UK by Duckworth Books
As told to The Bookseller: "It is so meaningful for my novel to have found a home at Duckworth – for their storied literary history as the publisher of Yu Hua’s China in Ten Words and so many other excellent works, but also for Rowan and her team’s impeccable vision for this book."
Rowan Cope, publisher, acquired UK and Commonwealth volume rights from Lucy Morris at Curtis Brown on behalf of Hillary Jacobson at CAA. The novel will be published in hardback in January 2024.

Selected for Best American Essays 2022
I am so, so very grateful that my essay “At the Bend of the Road,” published in Guernica, was selected for The Best American Essays 2022 by Alexander Chee. As a college student I used to obsessively read this series whenever I wanted writing inspiration, and never did I dream that a decade later, I’d be in it. You can pre-order the anthology, out November 1st, 2022, here.
